Chairman Message

As chairman of board of the Lahore Arts Council (Alhamra), I seek to reinforce the role of Alhamra as Lahore’s prized cultural and creative center.

Through inclusive, diverse programming that knits the best of our land’s artistic expressions with that from the rest of the world, Alhamra will offer our passionate arts community a platform that is at once local as well as global. From Qawali to K-Pop to Ghazals to Flamenco, we will quarterly showcase music performances that will provide entertainment for everyone.

Creating rich content consisting of local adaptations of Shakespeare to Punjabi folklore theatre, to name a few items on our theatre repertoire, will be key to our outreach for widening our community of theatregoers.

With art integral to the mission of the Alhamra, we will aim to curate fewer yet more qualitatively strong exhibitions in the Ustad Allah Bakhsh Gallery at our award-winning premises on the Mall as well as display temporary installations at the Alhamra Museum.

To bolster our already significant collection, we will seek support from philanthropists for the acquisition of art.
A bookshop has been established on the premises of Alhamra on the Mall, and we intend to add an Alhamra gift shop alongside a tearoom to make Alhamra a place to be culturally stimulated at and to meet friends and family at.

Your support and feedback will be greatly appreciated as we embark on newer, bolder steps for making Alhamra a place that you can all find enjoyable to be at.

  Mr. Razi Ahmed

Executive Director

The art and culture of a country are the outward manifestation of its people's collective pride and identity, built over centuries by both physical and mental forces. Pakistan has the best recognition for its literature and culture worldwide; a small example is that Lahore was awarded the status of "The City of Literature" by UNESCO for its love for literature and culture.

This is the reason why the greatness and success of a nation are measured by its cultural development. Culture and arts have changed evolution over time is an apparent reality, but the foundation remains the same. Alhamra, a cultural institution, is a platform for the young generation and talent, where people of every age, city, and religion can develop their skills.

We believe that if the ability can be motivated to lead to positive results, our tomorrow will be very bright and glorious. But to maintain our uniqueness in a constantly changing world, we must move forward with enthusiasm and high morale as a potential force. So that it can be brought to great heights while maintaining the art, culture, and traditions of this region and protecting and developing it.
